September

Autumn is almost here! It’s September and beautiful. The weather has started to cool down significantly - a nice 84 degrees today.  As we all know, the days will get shorter and colder. More time will be spent indoors making for more likelihood of children getting sick from being in closed quarters. To help stop the spread of the cold and flu, wash your’s and your child’s hands with warm, soapy water for at least 30 seconds. Wash hands after blowing noses, coughing and diaper changing. Disinfect diaper changing areas and toys. This will greatly help! If your little one  is experiencing any symptoms of the cold or flu, let us and your doctor know. They may need plenty of rest and fluids.. and plenty of cuddles and love. :) Here’s to a wonderful autumn season!

ducks in a row

Completed the CPR and First Aid class last week. Next on this list is one class on Preventative Health Care Practices and (cringe) get poked for our TB clearances. Then I can send in my application for our Small Family Child Care Home! Got a few more requirements done around the house (like a fire extinquisher and more child locks) and DIY projects just to make it super nice and ready. I’m excited to get this all done and get the last few “ducks in a row”.  :) If you’re interested in Sprout Daycare services, please visit the “contact us” page or give us a call to set up a tour and be placed on the waiting list. Tootles… or better yet… quackles!

Busy Hands

This week we worked on making things that have to do with home and garden. We made a house out of lollipop sticks, paper, and glue. We added rocks and grass from the front yard, and also a pool out of tissue paper. Then we made tissue paper flowers and butterflies. We’ve definitely been staying busy with all of our arts and crafts!

An Amazing Gift

Our son is turning 1 this Sunday. I’m still amazed at how the time has flown by – how much has happened in 1 year. How much he’s grown – how much we’ve grown. Growing up, I knew I wanted to have babies, but I was always afraid of being a mother. It seemed like too much of a task for a person like me. I never thought I would be good enough. But the Lord uses imperfect people for His perfect plan. What an amazing gift and responsibility it is to care and nurture for a child of God . How thankful I am that He chose us to watch over His little precious one. Everyday he is growing and learning, and so are we. Gage makes me want to be a better person everyday – to evaluate myself and grow. After all we are the one’s leading and guiding him in this crazy world. I’m so thankful for the blessings the Lord has given James and I. I’m so excited for the coming years and to walk continually in God’s grace and provision. Thank-you Lord.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 100:4

Happy Home

“It’s a house!”,  “Help me make a house, Jackie!” or at the end of the day when it gets to be about that time, “I wanna go home now.” Home is always on the mind.

We make a house out of blocks, in a box, or we dream one up on paper. I didn’t have a coloring book today so instead I drew some things that you would normally find in a house. A dresser, bed, refrigerator, dog (at least in this one), phone, remote, lamp, tables, outlet, flowers and the list goes on. There is one thing I forgot to add, however, and that was a heart for love! I’ve always “known” this but now I’m realizing everyday just how much a “home” has to do with our children’s security. For me, it’s a safe haven – a refuge and a place I just feel good in.  It’s like taking your shoes off, sitting in your favorite chair, taking your hair down or loosening that tie. A home is a place that remembers your impression. The place you stand every morning to make your coffee, or where you lay your head down at night. It will remember you when you get back and let’s you be you – safe and secure. I don’t ever want to take my “home” for granted. My home isn’t just a structure, but more importantly its what I hold close to my heart – my family and my loving Savior who love me through my weaknesses.

Lord, through all our generations You have been our home!” Psalm 90:1

June 2010 Newsletter

Well June is here and my little boy will be a year old in a few weeks. It’s hard to believe a year ago he was just a bun in the oven. Now he’s walking everywhere and just cut his two front teeth! (Two top, two bottoms!)

I am currently getting my CPR, First Aid and Preventative Health Care training and tying up the loose ends to receive my license. We recently converted our old home office into a new playroom. Soon there will be a child size table and chairs to sit and play at, cubbies, more learning activities and pretend play toys and then children to fill the space once we’re completely established and licensing has been completed. If you would like to set up an interview and be placed on the waiting list, give us a call!

Graco Drop-Side Cribs Recalled for Suffocation Hazard

Thu, Apr 29, 2010 (BabyCenter News) — In cooperation with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), LaJobi has announced a recall of about 217,000 Graco-branded full-size wooden drop-side cribs

The drop-side hardware can break or fail on these Graco cribs, allowing the drop-side to detach from the crib. A detached crib creates a dangerous gap between the drop-side and the crib mattress in which babies and toddlers can become wedged or entrapped. This poses a risk of suffocation and strangulation. Children can also fall from the cribs when the drop-side detaches or fails to lock.

The CPSC and LaJobi have received 99 reports of drop-side incidents, including hardware breaking and drop-sides detaching. In two incidents, children were trapped in the gap created by the detached drop-side. Both were freed by their caregivers. There were six reports of children falling due to drop-side failure, including one report of a mild concussion.

The recalled cribs were sold in cherry, espresso, natural, and white finishes. The production date, item number, purchase order number, and finish name are printed on a label attached to the footboard or headboard. The name “LaJobi” and the crib model name are printed on a product sticker on the stabilizer bar or bottom rail of the crib. You’ll find a full list of recalled cribs on the CPSC’s website.

The cribs were sold at children’s product stores and other retailers nationwide from February 2007 to March 2010 for $140 to $200. They were made in China and Vietnam.

Happy Memorial Day!

I just love the spring time! The weather is finally warming up again and I so look forward to my garden growing. About 2 weeks ago, we planted wildflower seeds and I’m anxious to see the first sprouts. I also planted zinnia’s in a small window planter around the same time and now there are 4 sprouts! They are the “babies” and are so cute. My nephew gave them kisses today and called them, “baby ‘prouts”! For Memorial Day, we made a red, white and blue star wreath and a patriotic wind sock. Everyone have a safe and happy Memorial Weekend!
